There are many different types of flora found around the East Arm of the Little Calumet river. I choose 10 trees that are found around the Heron Rookery of the Indiana Dunes National Park which is along the Little Calumet River.  

The trees included are:

1. American Beech - Fagus grandifolia - Fagaceae  
2. American Sycamore - Platanus occidentalis - Platanaceae 
3. Black Locust - Robinia pseudoacacia - Leguminosae
4. Black Maple - Acer nigrum - Aceraceae
5. Black Walnut - Juglans nigra - Juglandaceae
6. Hackberry - Celtis occidentalis - Ulmaceae
7. Ohio Buckeye - Aesculus glabra - Hippocastanaceae
8. Red Oak - Quercus rubra - Fagaceae
9. Shagbark Hickory - Carya ovata - Juglandaceae
10. Silver Maple - Acer saccharinum - Aceraceae
